Sigh, no lounge at our school. Our office/prep room/nursing station/microwave all exist in 1/3 of a modular classroom (built more than 20 years ago) but who's complaining? Great staff that wishes we had a place to plan together while we quickly inhale lunch!
Our lounge is the workroom. Most complaints have to do with copier breakdowns. Most discussions deal with personal things. I wish we had a forum for discussing educational matters.
I visit the lounge (the teachers' workroom) when I need to get bulletin board paper or make photocopies. The place seems like a ghost town...I see signs of people once dining there, but nobody has time to stop and eat lunch anymore!
Faculty Lounge? What's that? The closest thing my school has to a lounge for faculty to use in their off period is the UFT Teacher Center. There really isn't any place for us to congregate other than the unused Teacher's Cafeteria or a colleague's classroom.
We have a "rule" at our side of the lunch table to talk about work as little as possible! If someone starts complaining, one of us says "duty free!" to remind them--but we all have great senses of humor and can joke around, so that helps. The other half of the table is much more toxic....
Sometimes either/or questions don't work. We don't have a central lounge, but small areas where we gather. Most places and most of the time, they are good places to be. I have the pleasure of working with some great people! But, we all have our off days...
Sometimes it is a sanctuary because I work hard to make it one. We have fun at lunch and people who want to complain must sit on the other side of the room.

What lounge?
There is no time to lounge even if we did have a lounge. These days I rarely have time for lunch!

Our lounge is both. I understand those who need to vent but does it have to be the same rant every day???
