i think that cell phones should be banned from schoo. They cause distractions in class and they cause fights. They also can cause a bomb threat.
Himy name is Agustina ,I am 14 and I live in Argentina. I think children should be allow to have cell phones and to take them to school, but they shouldn't me allow to use them in class.
Many friends of mine use cellphones in class while teachers are explaining and I get distract to easily.
i am from south africa and here kids are not allowed to carry cellphones to school, but at many public schools in my area, we kids still carry them to school and our teachers do not protest this, they only warn us if the use of the cellphone interupes the lesson.i personally like the idea of carrying cellphones to school, it gives us communication with our parents in case on an emergency and u cannot go to the office to use the school phone!!!!
dude, it's not like someone's dieing while youre at school. I'm 14 and i have a iPhone, i would totaly leave it in my locker, what am i going to do with it in class anyways??? You, however, probably want it because you want to text in class all day; which explains why you probably aren't doing very well in class.
it is something we need in a every day baseis. we need it to keep in contact with our kids and see were they will be after school.
basically, students have abused the right to use their phones, the only problem teachers have is when you use them in class, no matter what some student will use it in class whether it actually is to ring someone in a desperate situation or if its just listening to music or something,
i have never been pulled up using my phone out of class, keep them off in your bags untill the break and use them then, there isn't a problem,
tell a teacher i know my rights you can't take it off me,
As a teacher, cell phones are a nuisance item at school; like iPods, and Game Boys. Students use their cell phone all day long (yes, even during class), and miss important teaching that is the point of attending school. Parents then have a problem with the teacher because their child not achieving at school.
I have actually had parents come into my classroom quite angry and demanding that I return a cell phone that I confiscated due to its' ringing during class. (The phone call was from the parent!) The parent had to know that the child was in class!
As a parent, I want to be able to contact my child, but, when it is confiscated by school staff because they were using it inappropriately, I do not run down to the school to retrieve it. Instead, I let my child sit without it for a few days. My child needs to either learn how to use the 'vibrate' setting and know when a cell phone is appropriate to use at school. Sometimes, they need to learn the lesson the hard way ... by not having it!
cell phones should be allowed in school as long as they are turned off in the students' lockers. no texting or talking on it during class. period. you're in school to learn not to chat with your friends.
Some kids have to walk home from school. What if there is an emergency and they need to contact their parents if they don't have a cell phone what are they supposed to do?
I teach at an urban high school with about 2,400 kids. One day there was a rumor passed around that someone had a gun on campus. Over the next several hours, countless kids had called their parents, with the resultant exodus of over 500 students being picked by their folks, completely cutting off any progress for that day. No such weapon, or any other, ever materialized. As a sidebar, what a field day there would have been for someone who had in mind to undertake such a dastardly mission. The disorder on campus would have certainly facilitated any hit and run strategy.
