Quote: Just be a supportive
Just be a supportive parent who actively participates in a child's learning. I work with students in low socio-economic conditions with a continual cycle of drug and alcohol abuse and poverty. Our school has minimal parent involvement despite our efforts as educators. As much as I want to be a parent and a teacher, I can't. It is heartbreaking to try and pick up the missing pieces to provide a child with the basic knowledge they should have once they walk into the classroom. Be supportive...be loving...care, really care. That would be the best gift ever.
Other
I always asked my students to bring a good used book for the classroom. If they wanted to write a blurb for the book, even better!
Paying forward
I asked my students to bring two dollars to donate to World Vision and make that my gift. The good news was that we ended up with $60 for someone less fortunate. The bad news was that their parents thought it would look bad if they didn't give the teacher a gift - kind of missed the point!

Gifts for teachers
I always by classroom supplies for teachers as holiday gifts. I know how much comes out of their own pocket so I always do the thank you notes, achievement awards, sentence strips and the like.

Every Christmas Season,
Every Christmas Season, employees are expecting something from their employer. This is one of the best motivation that a company can give. I think a simple gift certificate or a Christmas bonus is much appreciated. This can make employees happy and celebrate Christmas with smile.
Thoughtful gifts
Since I've always taught in schools where 100% of students are entitled to free breakfast and lunch, I certainly don't want parents wasting any money on ME. I feel guilty if they do -- especially if Junior is coming to school with no pencils, composition books or bookbag. The most thoughtful gift I ever received was from a grandmother who realized how much of my own money I spent on my students. She wrote me a lovely card and gave me a pack of homework passes from my favorite dollar store. In this way, she was contributing to the class, showing us she cared, and also giving me a simple way to reward deserving students who might need a break from homework once in a while.
Teach your child
The best gift for a teacher is to have parents teach thier kids respect, manners, and get involve in their kids education (help them with Homework, meet with teachers, call school at least once a month).
Thank you.
