Patsy Lanclos, MA, provides professional development, technology planning, and technology assessment for many schools and school districts nationwide and internationally. Previously, as coordinator for secondary instructional technology for the Spring Branch Independent School District, in Houston, Texas, she was charged with developing the vision and goals for instructional technology, facilitating implementation of programs that support the vision and goals, implementing technology planning and staff development, and evaluating the impact of the programs on student achievement.
Lanclos is the recipient of four ComputerWorld Smithsonian Laureate awards and received the first Technology Coordinator of the Year award for Texas. She is also an Apple Distinguished Educator.
As one of the lead trainers and contributors to the Texas Technology Leadership Academy for Principals and Superintendents, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, I had the participants visit the Edutopia Web site every day of the training.
I also facilitate technology-leadership academies for technology specialists and administrators for many districts. During these sessions, we spend much time visiting the Edutopia site, and participants are always ecstatic about the resources available. The participants download the PowerPoint(r) presentations available in the GLEF instructional modules to use with others. One teacher, in particular, jumped for joy when she saw the module on the digital microscopes; she had not used a microscope stored in the closet of her classroom for a year, because she didn't know how to use it. Now, she said, she had the resources she needed and had already contacted the teachers at her school with the good news.
