National Advisory Council member Pablo Muñoz was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and returned there after college to begin his teaching career.

After working as a social studies teacher, a supervisor of social studies, and the director of curriculum and instruction, Muñoz became superintendent of the city's school district in 2006. As superintendent, Muñoz introduced regular roundtable discussions with staff and a series of town hall forums with parents and other community members.

Muñoz has made his mark as a champion of educational technology for his district by leading the development of an ambitious preK-12 technology plan. In 2006, he attended the prestigious Broad Education Foundation's Superintendent's Academy. He holds degrees from Yale University and Columbia University.
