School's out! For many teachers, summer vacation comes as a welcome relief from the intensity of the school year. A few months off helps teachers return to the classroom in September with renewed energy and a fresh perspective. But not everyone is in favor of this long respite. Some argue that summertime is lost time for education. Proponents of year-round school, with vacations dotted throughout the calendar year, contend that the absence of a long break promotes student achievement and allows for greater flexibility when it comes to teaching and learning. According to the National Association for Year-Round Education, more than two million students in the United States are enrolled in year-round schools. We're interested in your opinion.

Do you favor year-round schools?

Yes. A year-round school schedule makes more sense in today's society and markedly improves student learning.

Year round schools are the worst schools that exists and will always be. S School being off in the summer motivates students for next year, but with vacations every so moths, it is harder for the parents that work and for the children to stay out of danger outside in the streets. There are so many reasons why there shouldnt be year round school that I can keep on going for ever, but i have to go.

i am a freshmen at a highschool and in my english class we are doing essays of our chosing(mine of course was against year-round school) andmy essay was based upon three supporting topics for opposing this new plan:
one:no extracuricular activities in summer because no time plus four supporting facts and one quote which i used by the person who typed the comment on this page titled "ts not better"

two:failed classes would be immposible to make up without summer schoolplus same format as one

three:summer jobs; immpossible without summer vacaton w/ same format as one and two but i used the quote from the comment "nooooooo!"

I think it's a good idea for elementary schools, maybe junior high, it make teaching the fundamentals better, and make the year not seem to drag on if you get a rejuvenating three week break every nine weeks you'll also probably stop looking at it as a year.
As long as there is no assignment over the break AT ALL.

However junior higher and especially high schoolers should be traditional because some kids like to/need to get a summer job and having two months with no responsibilities is something unique to youth that shouldn't be taken away completely.

NOOOOOO

How are kids supposed to make money in the summer or help their parents out on the farm when they can't get off school for more than a week at a time? They might get a job, but good luck keeping it because the manager is going to get angry at you because you're going to keep wanting to come back to the same job and eventually he's going to tell you to get lost. Then you got to start all over again at a new place. Plus your parents are going to start having to look for help on the farm because they won't get much out of their kids between homework and no summer vacation. Not only should there be no year round school, but the school year itself should be shortened!!! Like it was back in the Day!!!

nooooooooooooo!!!

It is not better for the kids to go to year round schools. Yeah we might get bored over the summer after awhile, but we always find stuff to do, and that's a lot better than going to school. Plus, if we went to year round schools, we would be even more bored because then we would have to sit at school for the whole year and have broken up vacations instead of a full vacation. It's bad enough we already have to go to school for seven hours a day, five days a week, for ten months of the year. I seriously see the people at school more than my family at home. Just think what it would be like if we went to year round school. I think it would be even worse. Also with year round school, kids are robbed of free time. They always have school and homework over the summer, they never get a break before they have to go to the next grade, and they don't usually get to go to summer camp. It would also be confusing to the parents and students who were transitioning from regular schools to year round. All of the information I have found on year round schools talks about how the schools have different groups who are at school at different times of the year. This is confusing and unfair sometimes for families who have more than one student in the year round schools. There have been times when the students of one family are in different groups, so one student is always at school, and the family never gets to go on vacation at all. I think it is just way to confusing and not worth the hassle.

Need to know...

To start off with, I do not attend a year-round school; i attend a multi-tracks school (whatever you address it). Im asking if students in year-round school have vacations during July and June? Besides that, I personaly think that year-round schools are much better. Yes, it may be a pain in the butt to have less "vacation", but trust me its worth it because you arent stressing with finals and State tests. Im thinking of attending to LAHS, a year-round school, i just need to know if we at least have 2 months off for switching grades because I visit my family in Yucatan in Mexico...but if not, oh well.
thanks
