Although most of the teachers interviewed in this video have moved on since it was filmed in 2002, the school continues to infuse technology throughout its curriculum. Unfortunately, the grant for the Tech@Home program has expired, but school staff seek new funding to reinstate it.

Mary Scroggs Elementary School Videw
This was a fantastic video. I would love to go to the school and stay for a week to see how everything works on a daily basis.
Great job guys!!!
Old Footage
If you pay close attention you will see that much of the footage on this video is dated from January, 2002. Is this an indicator of how far behind schools are NOW?!
How exciting!!! I wish I could come and spend a few days learning from your staff. The school building is wonderful and really conducive to learning. What an inspiration!!!
Tech at Home
Before viewing this video I had never heard of the government program known as "Tech at Home" that provides hardware and support for lower income students in an attempt to level the technological playing field. I would be keen to find out more about the scope of this program and see if it is possible to introduce this program to families in my area.
Weaving computers & multimedia into the curriculum
This really put it all in prospective for me. The idea of more dictation throughout the day that is then transferred to an e-mail that the parents can see and the child that can associate his verbal words with written words is an exciting example of technology!Bringing parents into the classroom without them having to be there is a beautiful idea.Less paperwork, more opportunities for those who do not have access can at least be caught up with technology.I believe that more computors need to be put into every classroom and should be a mandatory part of the curriculum.
Digital Learners
I think that this is a very important and inetresting article. It is crucial that educators understand how students view the world, what is important to them, and even how they learn best. And since they belong to a digital generation, who learn better through discovery than by being told and are experiential learners, we must get to the conclusion that lectures may not be an optimal learning environment.
Therefore, they do not have to adapt to teacher's style, teachers are who need to adapt to their learning style, otherwise we will have disconnected learners.
The Mary Scroggs Elementary School Video
What an exciting school to attend and to work in daily! The students produce a daily school-wide television production with all grade levels participating. the use of a live camera, the concept of practicing / rehearsing to achieve a better product, the conveyance of up to date school activities and learning, the use of a live and interactive classroom webpage for every classroom where students, the teacher and the child's family at home may witness and actively participate is incredible. This is the way education should be executed!
Your webpage and school are amazing.
Your web page and school is amazing. I am glad to see that you are on board with how technology is shaping our society. I have read so many books that talk about how our kids are socially disconnected because of computers. The truth is that they have never been more connected. I hope that more schools will model yours in the near future. I also love how well all of the children of different grades work together. That in itself is outstanding! I hope some day I can work in a school as awesome as yours!
Mary Scroggs Elementary and the Digital Natives!
What a super, fantastic video! I love how this school put it all together. I am definitely interested in learning more about applying for our own grant to do this in our school! It is incredible to watch how the children (all ages) were involved and actively participating in all areas of the technology. The sky was the limit! I am very encouraged by the daily entry of "how the class day went" on the class website. I am going to watch this again and encourage other teachers in my school to watch also. Then we will need to see about applying for our own grant!!!
Integrating Multimedia at Mary Scroggs Elementary School
This video was very inspiring. I enjoyed viewing the kindergarten class as they dictated to the teacher what they had done in class. You could tell it meant a lot to them, their little hands were all raised. I would imagine even a shy child would be engaged in this type of lesson.
I would love to integrate multimedia videos into my kindergarten classroom. Unfortunately our school is not equipped with multimedia tools. If anyone knows about a grant program for multimedia equipment, please let me know.
