At first I didn't know what

At first I didn't know what to think, but after reading the article further, I realized that this school has really focused on theme-based, intergraded curriculum and emphasizes the use of projects which aquire information and critical thinking skills. After learning that students master content 75% of what they hear,see,and do, I feel that is a great approach.
This type of program would be successful in Polk County because it is designed to honor all children in every area of intelligence equally--verbal-linguistic,musical,logical-mathematical,visual-spatial,naturalistic,body-kinesthetic, intrapersonal,andinterpersonal.This gives students an opportunity and enables them to work from their strenths.

I like the student's comment about it being more than just memorizing information for a test. I believe it means more if it is remembered for a long period of time.

I think the program seems

I think the program seems great. Especially comments from Leili Haas at the end when she said that she understands more than just memorizing, write it down for the test and forget it. Isn't that a teacher dream? Just think if we can have every child understands what we're teaching and not forget it after a test.
I agree with Principal Bolanos when she said that there are areas of the multiple intelligences that the students are strong in and there are areas that they are weak in. It seems that they are able to tap into that assessment and help the students see their potential. I can see this program be successful at our school, because we do have so many different backgrounds, interests, strengths, and weaknesses from our students.
It would be interesting to know what is the feedback on the way they do the progress report. It seems to have very detailed information on the student progress.



Educational Technology & Design

I wish more schools used the system they way the video shows. I have seen a lot of expressive arts used in schools; however, I see many of them poorly implimented and organized.



I am happy I found this

I am happy I found this site. It's very informative and supports my philosophy of education. I work at a pyp school and this is what our curriculum is based on. I look forward to learning more through your site. I sometimes find it difficult to integrate math into some of my units of inquiry. I hope to learn more about this area.



This seems like a great

This seems like a great school! I would love to learn more about some of the projects that the students work on. I am also curious to know how the students from this school transition into more traditional colleges. Is there any former students out there that can share their story?



Awesome School

I actually attended Key Learning Communtiy from 6-12th grade, and graduated from there in 2006. It is an amazing school and the application of all intelligences really helps students to focus on their strengths as well as work on their weaknesses in a setting where they can work at their own pace, with lots of assistance available. The classes are small enough that teachers have more than enough time to spend with each individual to answer questions and work on complications. Long classes and block scheduling cuts back on the homework too! I don't think I ever had much, other than working on our semester-long projects. This is definitely where I will be sending my children, it's more like a family environment than a school; as a matter of fact I'm going back tomorrow for the annual Thanksgiving Harvest Festival. I think every school system in America should have a school like KLC!
Oh, and did I mention in high school we got a field trip every week?! A student's dream!
