East London, circa 1967. Armed with only his trademark gentility and a well-cut suit, Sidney Poitier's Mark Thackeray takes on a classroom of troubled teens in To Sir, with Love. While a pre-Fame song-and-dance number helped propel English pop singer Lulu into temporary stardom, it was Poitier's classy gent that drew audiences to the theaters -- that and the abundance of kicky miniskirts.
