I enjoyed the video and will
I enjoyed the video and will use it in a faculty meeting. We have to show teachers the importance of making this paradigm shift in education to increase student engagement. I am talking about a classroom that is student-centered vs. teacher-centered! We must teach students the way they live, and that is with technology!
can't agree any better!

Technology use in the
Technology use in the classroom offers the students at Harrison High a unique and functional learning experience. Technology use aids teachers by making abstract concepts more concrete for the learner. I found it interesting that the younger students from the middle school were able to come to the high school and give the older students some pointers on how to use the technology. Kids these days are learning to use technology at younger ages everyday. I feel that technology use in schools will become a popular trend. It was interesting to see students taking a virtual field trip on the internet to anywhere in the world. Since budgets are being cut, and field trip numbers are reduced, this is an easy and fun way to bring back that type of learning to students. I think the goal of this video was to illustrate the benefits of using technology in schools. Only when we get students out of the paper and pencil learning and get them immersed in real world application, will we be able to educate students so that they can not only collect data, but analyze and interpret those resuts as well; therefore creating students who are critical thinkers!
Impressed and
jealous. I graduated high school in 2001, not too long ago! However, there were no such things at Smart Boards or Promethean Boards... and very rarely was technology integrated into any subject, other than Intro. to Computers or Keyboarding. Being a very hands-on learner, I wish that I could have had the opportunities that these students and my students are now given. Since no one can go back in time, however, I have promised myself that I will provide as many opportunities for my first graders, thus why I am getting my Masters in Instructional Technology. Not only is it interesting to me... it is something I never had, so want my students to have and be able to take advantage of in their learning.
I agree...
Where is the funding coming from? In my district, there have been enough Promethean Boards purchased for each elementary teacher to have one in their classroom, however, they do not have enough money to install them into more than 5 classrooms, so 6 of our teachers and students are going without, while the boards sit in their boxes in the storage warehouse. This is my 4th year at this school. Last year, I attended 2 different conferences to learn how to use and integrate the Promethean Board into my curriculum and benefit the students in my classroom... lots of good this did!
How does techn. integration impact the way teachers plan?
Question: How does technology integration impact the way teachers plan and deliver instruction?
In order to integrate technology into our lessons every day, our planning and delivery will have to change. In a lesson without technology, the teacher may very well be the center of the lesson and the one who is modeling the different activities for the students. If teacher plan on really integrating technology into the majority of their lessons, they will have to take a step away from the center of attention and become a guide in their classroom. Planning for these lessons may take more time at first. This may include searching for appropriate sites for their students to visit while completing a web quest or posting information to a class website. All this is a change and a step away from planning solely with our curriculum guides. This is turn may make it more difficult for many teachers because of their need to cover specific information in a certain amount of time. While planning, teachers must choose what activities are the best for the students. This may mean technology in some cases or another means of learning in other cases.
