Workshops for WL teachers soon!

Don Doehla, MA, NBCT Co-Director East Bay WL Project at UC Berkeley Language Center

Dear WL friends @Edutopia...

I do NOT understand how time can fly by so quickly! I always mean to post something here, and the next thing I see is that a few weeks have slipped by, and I am behind my planned good intentions. So sorry for that.

My topic for this posting is very practical in nature. I want to let you know about some excellent opportunities for professional development coming up very soon.

1) The California Language Teachers Conference, Garden Grove, California, February 27 - March 3, 2013

This is the main and best conference for WL teachers in California each year. There are many conference offerings, as well as excellent opportunities to network with colleagues and friends, mostly from California, naturally. Even if you are not a California WL teacher, you will find this one worthwhile.

I want to highlight one item of particular note. I am personally presenting a three hour workshop on Friday, March 1st, 4:30-7:30 on Project-based Learning in World Languages. Three hours is not long, to be sure, but I hope to pack in a lot of information to get teachers to a place where they understand the basics of PBL for WL, and to develop an idea to create a project for their own classes. I hope to see many of you there!

2) The East Bay WL Project, at UC Berkeley's Language Center
Thre Saturdays: March 18, April 20, and May 4, 2013

I am very excited to invite you to this three day workshop I am doing on Project-based Learning for WL teachers. On three different Saturdays, I will have much more time to help teachers go deeper with their understanding of the elements of PBL for WL, and to create at least one fully developed project unit for implementation in their courses. The EBWorld Team will be assisting me with personalized support for each teacher, so there will be many opportunities for one on one question/answer and reflection. If you live within commuting I hope to meet many of you there!

Anyone else out there have some conferences and/or workshops to promote? Please feel free to post those here as well! We are glad to promote good opportunities for WL teachers to collaborate and support one another in our professional journey.

Best wishes,

AATF - French Teachers @Stanford

Was this helpful?

I should also add the AATF of Northern California workshop at Stanford on February 9th. My friend Catherine Ousselin will be here from Washington State. She is a tech expert and has a great day planned for you!
