Recently, my district has adopted a program incorporation High Yield Strategies from Marzano's Classroom Instruction that Works (2001) book. This is a great book and recommends nine strategies to improve student learning. One of the things happening in my district is that we are being observed through "walk throughs" as to how often we are using these strategies. However, I found an article by Marzano warning that focusing on a narrow range of strategies is dangerous and his nine may not work in all situations. Has anyone run across a similar situation in your school or district? How familiar is anyone with high yield strategies? Which work best for you? Any disadvantages? Thanks! Joy
