Increased Class Sizes
I am currently researching a topic on the effects that increased classroom sizes have on students in grades Kindergarten. I would like to get an input from teachers around the world on their current classroom sizes, if it has increased or decreased (if so, what was the teacher to student ratio prior to), and what effects has these changes had on your teaching styles and students educational development? Also, for those educators who have experienced an increase in the student to teacher ratio in their classroom, I would like to know what strategies are you using to make sure that each child receives some type of individualized attention.
I look forward to hearing from many different backgrounds on this subject.

Growing numbers
Hello Tamala-
I am a kindergarten teacher and my numbers have been increasing. This year, I have a total of 21 students in my classroom which is more than previous years. As the bilingual kindergarten teacher in a relatively small school district, I generally have lower numbers than the other K classrooms in my building. Last year, I had a ratio of students to teacher of 18:1. This year is different from the previous year because I have a classroom aide in the classroom due to the IEP of one of my students. Therefore, the ratio of students to teachers is 10:1, which is not bad at all. Due to the addition of the classroom aide, I am able to catch students that are "just not getting it" and send them to work in a small group where they will get more attention and assistance than I could give them in a whole group setting. So far it is working out for the better. Good luck with your research!
