Lynnette STEM Program Specialist in 3rd-8th Grade After School Program

I run a STEM-based class in an after school program that is held within a public school. As my program starts up, I have been researching the possibility of using Minecraft as a teaching tool and I am really excited by the opportunities that can come from that! Unfortunately, the internet filter system at the school blocks a lot of things, one of them being Minecraft. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Any suggestions in regards to getting past this so I can connect my kids to awesome programs like Minecraft?

I am a retired media specialist for a large school system in Maryland. The technology department of our school system installed filters that blocked various websites. However, there was a procedure for submitting a web URL to the tech department to have the block for that particular URL lifted. Check with your central technology office to see if there is an existing procedure for authorizing websites that you feel are useful in your curriculum.

I know that I have spoken to my district's tech department and they have unblocked specific sites for me. It is a back and forth process that took about a week.
