Smartboards

Mrs.Smiles

Hi Everyone,
I am a first grade teacher and I am looking for more tools and ideas for how to incorporate using the Smartboard more effectively. This my first year working with a Smartboard in my classroom. The students love working with the it and I enjoy using it as well. Also, this year is the first year our school is implementing a new approach to reading and literacy called "The Daily Five" written by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.I teach first grade and for our reading PLC we are working on ways to incorporate using the Smartboard during "The Daily Five?" Does anyone have any suggestions of how to incorporate the Smartboard when implementing "The Daily Five,"or any suggestions of what they do during the "The Daily Five" in their classroom?

Thanks!

Terri,

WOW. Thanks for sharing these great sites! I am adding them to my bookmarks now! These are great since most of the classrooms in my school are equipped with interactive projectors.

I am looking for grants to purchase technology such as a white board. Our school has very limited technology in the classrooms and if we want on, we need to do all the leg work and find the money ourselves. If anyone has ideas or suggestions, please let me know. Thank you.

Apps for Smartboards

Have you seen the new Evan-Moor apps for Smartboards? My school is using them this year--they are the digital versions of the Daily Skills and Practice books that we already use. They look great, so far! The screens are clean, they give immediate, positive feedback, and the skills are embedded in grade level content. We're also purchasing the student Classpacks, to save copying time; kids can keep a record of their work as we work through the lessons (no losing papers). I'm relieved that they have short daily lessons, 180+, for every day of the year. Very cool :)

Mrs. Smiles, I would recommend using StorylineOnline to support literacy instruction; the site has a collection of ebooks read aloud by members of the Screen Actors Guild. I like the site because it includes text-to-speech support(which can be turned on or off) and because the book inventory changes from time to time.

You might also consider taking advantage of the audio recording feature of SMART's Notebook software or Promethean's ActivInspire software, depending on which platform of interactive whiteboard you are using. Have students record themselves reading aloud and then have another student evaluate their reading using a rubric or set of criteria.

Both activities could be used whole group or as centers depending on how you envision using them instructionally. Best of luck!

I started a quick wordpress site for our district, to aggregate youtube videos and links to help teachers figure out everything from the tech issues using a smartboard or polyvision board, to ideas on how to integrate the board into their lessons more effectively. If you;d like to check it out, it's at www.kcsdtechzone.wordpress.com It's a work in progress, but I would love to have your thoughts and whether aggregating resources would be helpful to folks elsewhere.
