Smartboards

Hi Everyone, I am a first grade teacher and I am looking for more tools and ideas for how to incorporate using the Smartboard more effectively. This my first year working with a Smartboard in my classroom. The students love working with the it and I enjoy using it as well. Also, this year is the first year our school is implementing a new approach to reading and literacy called "The Daily Five" written by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.I teach first grade and for our reading PLC we are working on ways to incorporate using the Smartboard during "The Daily Five?" Does anyone have any suggestions of how to incorporate the Smartboard when implementing "The Daily Five,"or any suggestions of what they do during the "The Daily Five" in their classroom? Thanks!

Hi,
I am currently working on my Master's in Reading and Literacy and am doing a research project on Smart Boards and their effect on student outcomes in elementary school classrooms.
If you have any experiences to share, leads to articles, and just friendly advice, please feel free to send it to me.
research Question: Does the use of Smart Boards in the classroom increase student outcomes (scores, writing , comprehension, input)?

Thank you
Thelma

SMART has white papers or research on various topics at http://www2.smarttech.com/NR/exeres/BBF39DEB-BFC4-4A17-8CE5-EC68CC60A843... that might help with your question.

There are also several research articles shared on this web page at http://www.waukeshaschools.com/WIT/SmartBoard/benefits.htm.

I would also download this research pdf located on the Teachers Love SMART boards web page at http://www.teacherslovesmartboards.com/2007/09/smartboard-rese.html

Please share your findings or best research web pages you find so we can learn from you.

Thelma,

I have used my SmartBoard regularly in my teaching of Spanish as a foreign language in the elementary grades (K-6th). Although I cannot offer any research on its impact I can tell you that is a wonderful tool that engages my learners and can provide a lot of language input. I like to use mine with interactive online games, stories, and to show video streams on a variety of topics. If you come across any research that pertains to its benefits in language learning and input, please share.

Thank you,

Elvira

I am also a first grade teacher and I have begun to incorporate the Daily 5 into my literacy centers. I have had the same difficulty utilizing the Smartboard with the Daily 5. I try to use it as a part of listening to reading. There is a website that has famous people reading childrens' books. The students sit on the rug and they are able to listen to and watch someone read a story. The website is storylineonline.net and I often use this when I am doing a special story project as well. I could use some more ideas though!
