The Calculator: When's the right age?
This may seem like a question that educators had put to rest a long time ago. The calculator has become an inextricable part of our pedagogy. However, I am seeing students who do not understand basic arithmetic because they had a calculator put in their hands very early on.
So, I would like your feedback:
Do you as a K-5 educator see this as a problem?
When is it appropriate for a student to transition to doing computation on the calculator?
