The 4th grade at my school will be piloting ipads in the classroom this fall. Each student will receive an ipad for use in regular and enrichment classes. Please share apps you have used and ideas for ipad technology in the classroom. We have been doing a great deal of research on this topic, but it would be great to hear from other teachers who use technology in the classroom. I plan to share throughout the pilot.

Does your school fall under the Title I umbrella? If so, then there's your source of funding right there. Our primary school is designated Title I school-wide. We were able to purchase iPads for our school with these funds.

Hello,

I am a parent, classroom volunteer and founder of BestAppsForKids.com. I just wanted to let you know that every Friday I feature normally paid apps that are free just for Friday. I also have started doing regular promo code giveaways, but promo codes tend to go very quickly.

I am very excited about the role of iPads and technology in education and hope you will find BestAppsForKids.com a good resource.

Edutopia is publishing a series of reviews of iPad apps for elementary classrooms. The author is using the revised Bloom's Taxonomy to organize her reviews.

Hey Folks,

Is eSpark, Inc. on anyone's radar as yet? If you are looking for a great resource that helps identify the best apps for elementary school kids in math and reading you should check out http://www.esparklearning.com.

We use iPads paired with the best educational apps and other online resources to help students excel in math and reading. I'm happy to chat with anyone who is curious and wants more info. I'm sure I could even help arrange a demo of eSpark's services.

Let me know!

I have used just one i pad and 3 free standing computers. We had $50. to spend for new apps for the i pad. I went on line using the document camera so the kids could go to the i tune store with me. We then viewed and selected programs as a class and then purchased the ones we thought most Fun and useful. Worked out great and the students already had an ownership of these curriculum supporting apps.

I've created an educational iPad App called 'Alligators' that is now available in the iTunes App Store for $1.99. View incredible up-close images as you easily navigate through twenty screens transporting you into the wild with amazing photographs. Tap the text to hear fascinating facts. Designed for kids as an introduction to reptiles (not a field guide). May also be an excellent enrichment for some Special Education students and people studying English as a second language. This App also encourages young people to go explore the outdoors.

We are considering an investment in ipads for our new science center and are looking for possible ideas for use, not so much in the language arts based curriculum, but rather in the "interactive", potentially for grades 1-5. It is a skills based program with complimentary content. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Steve,

Have you checked out Diane Darrow's blog series on iPad apps for elementary students? http://www.edutopia.org/blog/ipad-apps-elementary-blooms-taxomony-diane-....

Also, Andy Marcenik recently wrote a blog series on how to take your entire school to a 1:1 with ipads:http://www.edutopia.org/spiralnotebook/andrew-marcinek (could be useful).

Lastly, I recently wrote a blog about how you can take advantage of apps in the classroom. This paragraph in my blog may be helpful:

1. Take Advantage of Apps for Learning
Applications or "apps" can be very effective in engaging students. Check out Apple's directory of thousands of apps specifically designed for learning. Plus, when you download an app, you instantly make learning mobile. iPad, iPod, iPhone -- whatever the device, you can learn on the go. Link to directory: http://www.apple.com/education/apps/. Link to blog: http://www.edutopia.org/blog/steve-jobs-classroom-innovation-elana-leoni.

Hope this helps,
Elana

You need to check out:
http://appshopper.com/

You can find apps that you want to buy on sale or even for free! There are ways to filter for iPads, iPods, or universal, recently reduced or free, etc. I don't even have an iPad but I love looking on this site and getting free ones to store in my iTunes for someday!
