ipads in the classroom
The 4th grade at my school will be piloting ipads in the classroom this fall. Each student will receive an ipad for use in regular and enrichment classes. Please share apps you have used and ideas for ipad technology in the classroom. We have been doing a great deal of research on this topic, but it would be great to hear from other teachers who use technology in the classroom. I plan to share throughout the pilot.

looking for ideas for science based learning with ipads
We are considering an investment in ipads for our new science center and are looking for possible ideas for use, not so much in the language arts based curriculum, but rather in the "interactive", potentially for grades 1-5. It is a skills based program with complimentary content. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Have you checked out..?
Hi Steve,
Have you checked out Diane Darrow's blog series on iPad apps for elementary students? http://www.edutopia.org/blog/ipad-apps-elementary-blooms-taxomony-diane-....
Also, Andy Marcenik recently wrote a blog series on how to take your entire school to a 1:1 with ipads:http://www.edutopia.org/spiralnotebook/andrew-marcinek (could be useful).
Lastly, I recently wrote a blog about how you can take advantage of apps in the classroom. This paragraph in my blog may be helpful:
1. Take Advantage of Apps for Learning
Applications or "apps" can be very effective in engaging students. Check out Apple's directory of thousands of apps specifically designed for learning. Plus, when you download an app, you instantly make learning mobile. iPad, iPod, iPhone -- whatever the device, you can learn on the go. Link to directory: http://www.apple.com/education/apps/. Link to blog: http://www.edutopia.org/blog/steve-jobs-classroom-innovation-elana-leoni.
Hope this helps,
Elana

iPad apps
Hi Brian!
We have a bunch of iPads being rolled out in pockets across our district as well as kids bringing their on technology. As a result, I created a quick wordpress site to aggregate what's being used and links to other iPad app resources, lessons, activities etc. You can find it here at KCSD Tech Zone. The website also has links to Google Apps that are potentially useful, and a collection of Youtube videos we've aggregated to help teachers answer questions and do a little of their own quick Professional development on an ad hoc, as needed basis, to try to take the burden off our ed tech coach.
Let me know what you think!
App Lists by Apple Distinguished Educators
Try http://appitic.com , the site has just launched and has 1,300+ apps by subject, Multiple Intelligence and Bloom's Taxonomy. In the next couple of weeks, ADEs will begin to document lesson ideas and practical classroom applications for the apps.
Very cool!
Thanks for sharing -- so useful. I just tweeted it out to my network -- thanks again.

My classroom is a very tech
My classroom is a very tech savvy. We have laptops, kindles, ipads, mimio and wii. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of free educational downloads for wii. I have discovered one site that has a few literacy and math games but I'm wondering if there is more out there. Also we just received the ipads two weeks ago and at this point the apps must be free. What are some "must haves" for the ipads? thank you.
