Author Research Project Resources Requested

Terri Britt

Hi everyone,

I'm elmentary librarian of 10 years, new to this group, and trying to earn my ISTE Capstone certification. My project is to have my 5th grade students research a picture book author, record information on a graphic organizer, prepare book talks, and combine this information into either a PowerPoint or PhotoStory presentation to inspire our K-3 students to read these books. We will use www.voicethread.com to record the audio.
My questions for you:

What electronic graphic organizers would you recommend for elementary students?

What specific electronic resources have you found to be very useful for author study by elementary students? I have found some, but am interested to see if you can share others I haven't discovered yet.

Maybe you can share other great author exploration activities you've done with your students.

Thanks,
Terri

Hi Terri,

Your project on authors sounds great! I would recommend the following Web 2.0 tools/projects for studying authors.

1. Create a glog - Your students can create a glog (an interactive poster) on an assigned author. This is much more interesting than a PowerPoint and students can add text, clipart, and images. To learn more and sign up for a free educator account (you get 100 free student accounts) go to: http://edu.glogster.com/

2. Create an Animoto Slide Show- With this tool your students can create a slide show with images and music. The amount of text you can include on a slide show is limited but you also have the option of inserting video clips of your students talking about their author. To sign up for a free educator account go to: http://animoto.com/education

I hope this helps!
