Hello educators! Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) is seeking middle school social studies teachers interested in trying out innovative digital materials for a 5-day study during 2011–2012. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has created three exciting new multimedia programs to teach US History and Civics to middle school students. Each program uses digital stories and games to motivate and engage young people in a topic like slavery or industrialization, and build academic skills in critical thinking, vocabulary and analyzing primary sources. Teachers will receive a stipend of $300 for any extra prep work they do, and we will also pay a $300 stipend directly to your school to cover any administrative costs. If you are interested in participating or would like more details about the study, please contact Pilar Gonzalez (EDC researcher) at 212.807.4208, or pgonzalez@edc.org no later than September 26, 2011, and let us know that you are interested in participating in the American History and Civics Initiative Classroom Study. We will contact you with a brief survey to determine your eligibility, and discuss technical requirements, time commitments, and other details about participation in the study. Thank you very much, and we hope to hear from you! Sincerely, William J. Tally, Ph.D., Senior Researcher and Designer Education Development Center | Center for Children and Technology 212.807.4206 btally@edc.org
