Technology Integrator

I am a Technology Integrator for my local Middle and High School. This is my first year as a Tech Intgr and I am very excited about this new "adventure". My ultimate goal is to be a valuable resource and go-to guy for the faculty in this district and to stay connected with other world-wide to keep fresh ideas flowing through. eduptopi.org as been one of the better sites I've found so far for an enriched community and resource.

I teach High School English, but recently took an online class entitled Introduction to Education, focusing on encouraging students to enter the field of education. I would like to continue to learn techniques and shortcuts to make the online version of the classes user friendly. I would also like to eventually propose teaching Senior class English online in our district since so many of our students commute to school and hold jobs.

Dir. of IT, adjunct in educational technology

I received a degree in Computers In Education (C.S. Education) from the University of Oregon in 1984. I have been working with technology in education at the college level since then. During the past 10 years I've been teaching as an adjunct in our Education Dept. I'm teaching classes on integrating technology into teaching. I really enjoy working with the education majors as they prepare to teach at the PK-12 level. I'm teaching my first online course this summer and I'm really enjoying it. I would enjoy hearing what technologies high school teachers have found to be most useful.

By my photo, you can probably tell that I went to college in the years B.C. (before computers!) I have chosen teaching as a second career and find myself in the classroom with little (no) technical knowledge.

It's obvious that our kids are growing up in a technological era, and are used to "watching" -vs.- "listening," like we used to do. In order to make my lessons more interesting and more like what my kids are used to relating to, I'm looking for some courses that would take me through beginning with baby steps to fully integrating media in my classroom. Any suggestions?

Permit me to introduce myself. I am Fr. Jesudoss Perianayagam, a Catholic priest belonging to the religious society of the Salesians of Don Bosco, of the province of Chennai, India. My doctoral degree, which I have very recently completed in the faculty of Social Communication in the Salesian Pontifical University, Rome, (recently my research was published in a quarterly review of Communication Research Trends from Santa Clara University CA), was concerned with an extensive research in media education in the context of empowering street children of Tamil Nadu, India.
Heavy on my heart is a mission to help the poor and abandoned street children of Tamil Nadu. My hope is to build a Center of Communications and Media Studies, which will be used as a broadcasting center to spread the Gospel to the abandoned street children, and as an educational nucleus for these children to learn visual and communication arts and technology skills, within an accredited and degree granting educational setting. Cinema in Tamil Nadu is the heartbeat of the cultural system. Cinema has saturated every aspect of Tamil Nadu and its society. The poor and abandoned street children have absolutely no escape from it. The abandoned street children have adopted cinema as their surrogate family, the actors being surrogate brothers and sisters and parents. As a way of reaching these beloved children for a better society, I would like to use the venue of cinema as a way to attract them, since they are already immersed in this uniquely cinemagraphic culture. I believe that cinema can be used as a powerful instrument to draw the children into a life-changing relationship with the society.
The project therefore is two fold. First and foremost it is a project to establish a communications center for the spreading of the human values, having in mind the particular and unique needs of the street children. Secondly, the project seeks to build a communications and media educational center where these children can be educated in communication and media technology. Thus, the youth who are educated by this center, will in turn be the story-writers, film-makers, and broadcasters, to evangelize their own communities and peers, and through the skills they acquire, they are able to receive a college degree in Communications and Media. I am hopeful that with your guidance and help God will raise some donors to support me, to collaborate with me in order to educate the poor dalit children through this project.

Ultimately, I see the mission with the poor and abandoned street children of Tamil Nadu as being a pilot program of sorts, to be used as a model to be established in any big city that has a population of poor and abandoned children. It is our fervent hope that those children who will accept this media education, will in turn reach out to other street children who do not have the opportunity.
I have been looking forward to approach some one from your country which has the record of using this media and technology to educate the children in the schools. I am ready to cooperate and collaborate with you as a director of the communication center for which I am qualified and and soon will assume this responsibility in Chennai-India. Please guide me and support me to realize this dream with your experience and knowledge. I am ready to do anything in my capacity to prove my passion in this field of media education.
Right now I am staying in our SALESIAN COMMUNITY DON BOSCO TECHNICAL INSTITUTE, 1151 SAN GABRIEL BLVD, ROSEMEAD, CA, 91770, Phone: (626) 9402162. I would like to ask your permission to present to you in details the project along with the documents necessary.
The anticipation of your help fills our hearts with great optimism.
