STEM education provides many opportunities and challenges. How can our practice evolve to meet the needs of 21st-century learners?
A Common Core Standard: "Critique the reasoning of others"
I was reading about the NYC gap apps challenge which is aims to build skills in the 8 Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice:
*Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
*Reason abstractly and quantitatively
*Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
*Model with mathematics
*Use appropriate tools strategically
*Attend to precision
*Look for and make use of structure
*Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
Has anyone effectively found a way to have students "critique the reasoning of others" or is this something that's in the common core but not used in practice?
