Its nice to see so many new people arriving here. Please take a few moments to tell us about yourself, especially about your interests beyond the classroom.

Hi, I'm Debbie and I have been teaching students with Special Needs for 25 years. I have been at the HS level for 19 years. I can honestly say that I still love working with the students I have!! Even at the HS level.

I like seeing new things done in a classroom. When I say that, I don't mean that they have to be brand new ideas or the same thing with different names. I like to see teachers who have taught for awhile evaluate what is going on in the classroom and decide to do something different to get better results. I think that is why people join groups like this; at least that is why I join a group. It is the difference between a teacher who teaches the material and a teacher who teaches the students.

Outside of school I enjoy traveling, sewing, reading, and spending time with my family.

Hi Debbie and Deven:
Nice to meet you both. I am an Admin for a large school dist in NJ. There are constant changes in Special Ed (as I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir) and I am always interested in staying abreast of what's happening in other school districts around the country. The biggest challenge I see in my district has to do with state assessments. Students are not making AYP. Any ideas as to how we can improve the current status?
