How do you motivate a student with an extremely negative self-image with no support at home? How do you motivate said-student to complete any work?

It's hard!! How old is the student? I believe it all begins with relationships! I know as educators we cannot conquer the world (even though we try), but I do believe helping the unmotivated student begins with showing you care. Keep in mind this may take a long time to accomplish! We don't know how long the student has been experiencing a negative self-image! It may be hard to trust and support what you are doing in the classroom because they have not had those experiences with other important people in their lives (i.e their family)!
