students pay for commute to school?

New York City only has school buses for special education students; all others walk or ride the public buses and subways for free.

The NYC transportation authority says budget problems force it to eliminate free student fares on the City's subways and buses starting in September.

Next year students will pay half-price, upwards of $1,000 each just to get to and from school.

In 2011 they will pay full fare.

Besides students who choose to drive to school, do you know of any pK-12 students who are forced to pay for their commute to and from their classes?
