What High Engagement Texts Do You Use?
Maybe this thread could be the start of a resource... over the last month I've been discovering texts that my students have been really engaged by. Such texts can be a great anchor for a lesson, unit or concept. They can also be a great entry point to develop social justice in the classroom!
Footbinding in China

Hammurabi's Code (I created an adapted version... about 30 laws)
Modern Day Child Slavery for Cocoa Beans

Excerpts from the novel Sold -- about child trafficking into sexual slavery
(can you tell we're in a unit about slavery?)
What text do your students get really, really into??
