advocacy for social emotional learning bill
I don't know how many people know this but Washington State has a bill that is pending about this very topic and if it passes it will be a huge help to schools and teachers who believe in social emotional learing and how important it is for this generation coming up and the generations to come. What a diffence this type of teaching and learning will do for kids. I think it won't be long if this bill becomes law that we will see the changes in our youths. If anyone can help advocate that would be great. I am trying to find out the status of the bill and I will be going to Lobby Day in Olympia!!

Emotional learning.
Sometimes educational planners are more concern with measurings rather than the emotional side of education. The word emotion menas e= energy and motion= movement. I would say...tell me the emotions of the school, and I will tell you the quality of education.

if I understood your comment correctly, I think you are talking about the two different ways of measuring things: quantitative and qualitative. Most administrators and policymakers still seem to share the fallacy of quantitative measurements being more reliable than their qualitative counterparts. However, it is the quality of education we are concerned about, isn't it?

Please see if you can draw on Visible Thinking / Project Zero research from Harvard, where Howard Gardner, David Perkins, and others, have data to support the value of the many forms that intelligence takes and is worthy of funding and general support in curriculum / student success stories. I also quote Mel Levine and Daniel Goleman, of course, when advocating for what you are discussing for Washington.

Hi Everyone -
Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the latest information about Dr. Levine. Mel Levine is now deceased. A class-action sexual abuse and malpractice suit was filed against him in Feb 2011; he died before any charges could be brought to trial. Prior to the class-action suit, he was never convicted on any abuse charge, and never faced criminal charges. There is an article outlining this information in the New York Times.
