STEM education provides many opportunities and challenges. How can our practice evolve to meet the needs of 21st-century learners?
K-2 STEM Classrooms
I am a teacher of gifted children and will be changing grade levels from 4th to 2nd next year. Also, I will be part of a team of educators who will be opening/building a new STEAM (Science, Techonlogy, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) program for our district. I'm looking for ideas on how a 2nd grade STEM classroom looks. I know I don't want it to looking like a typical 2nd grade classroom, so I'm looking for ideas. I know we will not have desks, but will have rectangular tables. There will be a huge technology component as well. I know that when my students and their parents walk into my room they will immediately notice it looks different than regular 2nd grade classrooms, but I'm not sure what that should look like.
Any suggestions, or recommendations to pictures on the web?
Thanks!

A community resource for you
Kerri - I would suggest getting in contact with Joey Page, principal at the Richfield (MN) STEM School. The school is on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Richfield-STEM-School/154016071277197 and the contact info is there. St. Kate's provided custom STEM training for their teachers and they are an awesome group of educators and happy to help! Good luck!
