STEM education provides many opportunities and challenges. How can our practice evolve to meet the needs of 21st-century learners?
$25,000 in cash for great STEM teaching and learning ideas.
Dear Valued Educator,
As someone with a deep commitment to education, we know that you are invested in improving the quality of STEM teaching and learning in California. Often teachers are not asked for their great ideas to improve the way students learn STEM. Here is your opportunity to finally tell your story of STEM and potentially win $5,000 in the process.
This April 1, 2011, Encorps Teachers Program is launching STEMposium, a symposium event that will cultivate innovations and connect leaders in STEM education throughout California. At STEMposium, students, teachers and educational innovators will share their ideas to a live and digital audience at the California Academy of Sciences. To find great ideas and speakers, STEMposium is holding a video contest and we want you and your students to enter.
How can my students or I be featured at STEMposium and win $5,000?
Enter the contest and submit a 60 second video of your idea at www.STEMposium.org.
Videos are simples, just you and camera explaining your idea.
Deadline for videos is January 31, 2011.
From the submissions, a panel of experts will select 20 presenters to be featured at STEMposium and a total of $25,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top innovators. This is a great opportunity to raise money for your classroom and to get attention for your great ideas. Submitting a video and attending STEMposium is also a great, hands-on professional development opportunity.
Email us with questions at STEMposium@encorpsteachers.org.
All the best,
the STEMposium team

Video questions...
Can I make my video with my cell phone or does it have to be a "real" camera?
Great question
STEMelissa,
Videos can be made with anything that will upload to YouTube, so a cell phone, flip cam, webcam, a camera built into a Mac, etc. can be used.
Also, production quality isn't imporant. Should just be you, talking to a camera, explaining your idea.
STEM PBL Unit with lesson plan & teachers' guide pages
My idea already exists as a Project-Based Learning Activity with Photograph Starter Page, lesson plan, and brief text teachers' guide.
So do you accept an already created MS Word document to accompany the 60 second video...?
Thank you for your assistance with my proposal/submission...

Allen,
Thank you for your question. We are excited to view your submission! The selection of semi-finalists for STEMposium will be based purely on the 60 second video submissions, but please feel free to email your document to STEMposium@encorpsteachers.org so that we can keep it on file for the duration of the contest. Also, be sure to describe the document as best you can in your brief video if it is a critical part of your STEM idea.
Looking forward to your hearing you tell your story of STEM,
