Wisconsin "Budget Repair Bill" protests
I wanted to create a thread for us to share links and resources on the Wisconsin budget situation and protests. Anyone have any others? Please share.

Wis. State Senate Passes Anti-Union Bill, In End-Run Around Dem Boycott
Capping a dramatic turn of events, the Wisconsin state Senate on Wednesday night passed a new, stripped-down "budget repair bill" -- which now excludes all the fiscal elements of the original budget repair bill, and simply includes the original's provisions to roll back the collective bargaining and organizational rights of Wisconsin's public employee unions.

Tennessee facing the same
There is currently a bill in state legislature that eliminates all collective bargaining rights for teachers, though it does make provision for bargaining for benefits and working conditions. Diane had it absolutely right in her quote below! You cannot reform education by eliminating education! As one representative in TN said, "This bill will ensure that fewer college students will want want to become teachers." What happens when there are NO teachers? All the reform in the world will be worthless!
On the climate in public education today: Diane Ravitch says it best, "One must wonder how it is possible to talk of improving schools while cutting funding, demoralizing teachers, cutting scholarships to college, and increasing class sizes."
Hi Katherine
I'm glad the quote from Diane Ravitch resonated with you. My hope is that all these very cynical and political attacks on collective bargaining will backfire and the people will band together and strengthen both teacher and other unions, making them that much stronger and protecting the middle class in this country.
Best,
Rebecca
