Hello! I teach 3rd grade, and the past couple of years I have been trying some small scale projects such as student businesses and a classroom economy. My students and I have loved incorporating these things into our daily routine. With these particular projects, for the most part, they don't take a lot of extra time. There is really only one day per week where I take time from other another subject to meet and discuss the project. This year I am wanting to dive into some projects that would replace the somewhat "protected" learning blocks such as math and reading. In my county we have a pretty strict pacing guide we are supposed to follow, but luckily my principal trusts me enough to give me a little freedom. I guess I am wondering if anyone has any tips for planning projects that you could completely replace the "lessons" that the state or county has provided (while still documenting that you are covering the standards)?
