My teaching staff is questioning the importance of quizzes & tests in their lesson development of PBL curriculum. We wonder if keeping it as an option in the lesson template for measuring student growth will ultimately HINDER our ability to truly make the paradigm shift from evaluating finite comprehension, to assessing authentic learning that aligns/integrates/relates to real-world applications/problems/simulations/experiences relevant to student lives...or are quizzes & tests necessary to assess baseline or foundational knowledge as a first tier approach to the assessment of learning within PBL???
