Online Learning Research

Keith Heggart High School Teacher from Sydney, Australia

It might be useful to have a discussion where we can add research or ideas that we come across so that all educators on Edutopia can access them: basically, I'm suggesting a place that could become almost a library of online learning practices.

So, here's my first one. It's an article by Reeves et al about the link between online learning and authentic learning. Interesting, practical reading.

INACOL has some incredible sites, suggestions, and rubrics. I would highly recommend that all online organizations and teachers join the organization. They have a conference in November and all the major vendors, online learning institutions, and the best of the best teachers will be a part of this conference. I have had the opportunity to work on two of their online standards committees and there are amazing resources there for all of us to view and use.

Hi Tom,
Thanks so much for sharing this site. It does like like it is a veritable hoard of information. I was particularly drawn to the research section, and the section on promising practices in online learning. In this section, there are lots of reports on ways to move to online learning, and then get the most out of it. Great stuff.

You will have to attend their conference. We have worked on standards, best practices, how to get started, rubrics to evaluate your program and more. Good Luck....after their November conference contact the VP of INACOL Allison Powell. She is a great resource too.
