When Dr. Judy Willis (radteach.com) was here last week, she predicted that the rote learning (spelling, geography, grammar, multiplication tables) will eventually be taught via online games. In other words, rather than sit in class and memorize using pen-and-paper homework, kids would play online games that would help them learn this important, yet tedious, information. I just spent some time on PurposeGames (http://www.purposegames.com) and played some of the geography games. When I didn't do so well, I was motivated to play again, to see if I could increase my score. I find this idea of online learning by way of online gaming (especially for the nuts and bolts of memorization) to be especially compelling! Most importantly, I really did get a good geography lesson. Anyone else have experience with online learning they'd like to share, either with purposegames or another site? Seems like there are a zillion offerings out there. Would love to hear what's working and what isn't.
