Greetings and welcome to Bridges: The First Years of Practice. I look forward to working with you to create a forum for the lively and supportive exchange of ideas and insights related to the beginning stages of professional teaching practice. Although it has been a quarter of a century since my first years of classroom teaching, I can still remember those foundational experiences and relationships that I encountered when I first graduated from my teacher education program. While the support I received didn't prevent me from making mistakes or questioning the job that I was doing, it did help me to keep things in perspective, maintain a sense of balance as well as a sense of humor about what I was experiencing. I'm hoping that teachers from all stages of their careers will feel comfortable forming a network of support here for those in their first years of practice. I will be posting a few questions that might help get the conversation going, but feel free to jump in with your own topics and ideas as well. Looking forward to the journey! stephen hurley
