Hello!!!  I hope this will help you.  I had a mentor last year for my first year of teaching...if you could call it that.  I rarely got to see the gal assigned to mentor me, so often I felt I was on my own.  I wish I had know about the great groups on Twitter because I think it would have been a better first year for me.  I also wish I had known about tools like Glogster, Tagxedo, and even Diigo.  I really appreciate teacherbootcamp.edublogs.org for helping me learna about a lot of it.  I really believe it will help me with my second year.

Of course, I would also share that classroom management stuff by Harry Wong was helpful too.  =)

Hi,
I'm an Educational Coach (mentor) and mod this group here on Edutopia. I'm also the creator of New Teacher Chat on twitter. I moderate that chat and would recommend you join us there as a support to your new year. Here is our wiki http://newteacherchat.wikispaces.com/
I archive the chat and you can get many support pieces in the content.
I think that's so much more supportive than what I've seen with Harry Wong's site. His book, however is a great resource.

I have just completed my Elementary Education Certification Exam and was told by the state that the next step was to go through a Mentoring Program. How do I find a Mentor? Do I contact the local schools?

Debi!
I'm so glad you came to this group to ask this question.

I have developed a new teacher mentoring group on The EduPLN http://teachingwithsoul.wordpress.com/new-teacher-mentoring-project/ Check out my post, find the mentors on the google doc and contact them via their emails.

Each one of them is committed to supporting and mentoring a new teacher, or even a vet that might want some support.

Let me know who you connect with and feel free to share this resource with others!
