The first years of practice can be a time of great hope and exhilaration -- and fatigue and anxiety. This group is designed to allow new teachers and veterans alike to connect and share that sense of community that is so important in the first years.
getting certified
Hello,
I just finished my first year as a French teacher in South Carolina. Because I do not have a certification I was only able to teach in a private school.
I really had a great experience there. The school provided a great learning and teaching environment.
Because my husband had a contract in North Carolina I had to quit my job. I am now looking at possibilities to get certified.
Do you happen to know of any online certification programs?
I would really appreciate your advice on that matter. I have seen that there are many online programs offering teacher certification. I would like to make the right choice!
Thank you very much for you help,
Celine

Sam Houston State University has an online certification program that you can complete if you have a Bachelor's degree. It is Excellent- it is the best one in the State of Texas and I believe ranked well amongst others around the country.
The website is www.shsu.edu

Thank you for the link!I just found out that you can also start teaching public schools while getting your licence. It is a different path that they call "lateral entry" teachers.Has anyone done that and would recommend it?Thanks

Yes, I'm on a similar alternative certification route in Illinois. I already had a Bachelor's degree, a high GPA and relevant experience so I'm taking intensive courses over this summer and have just been hired for my first teaching position starting in the Fall.
Although I'm still in the beginning stages, I've so far found it to be a great route for working professionals looking to move into education.
