What are some of the topics that might be covered? What do folks want to discuss?

Very excited about this! Thanks for setting this up Lisa and Betty.

Topics..well let's see. I think we'd have to talk about classroom management -- it's something that doesn't really get taught in colleges of ed and it's so vital! How about "tips and tricks for classroom management success for new teachers?"

Yes, great idea! I agree with the topic of classroom management, probably the part I have most difficulties with.

Great topic! Would love to hear what other suggestions people have.

We have a handy little series of video tips for classroom management - you can see all five tips here.

what a successful chat! did anyone else attend? I thought it was a great mix of new and veteran teachers and some great ideas came from the discussion on classroom management.

I promised to post links to the resources I tweeted during the chat:

YES Prep Resource Page, which includes a download of the student/parent/school contract in both English and Spanish

Teaching Math as a Social Activity video, where you can see a teacher explain how he and his students set up the class "working agreements"

That was great, and I look forward to the next one!

I participated and really loved the diversity of those there (many new teachers, many veteran teachers, and some people like me (not an educator but interacts with educators doing innovative things around the US).

Unlike some bigger chats, I absolutely loved how responsive and personalized the chat was. I was able to get answers to many questions I asked and I felt there was a deep level of sharing and collaboration. Can't wait for the next one :)

Hey fellow teachers, let's get our forums, opinions, and solutions into public awareness for a change. It's time for teachers to be the consultants, not politicians. We are in the trenches every day, and we know what's not working. We also know how to fix many of our system's problems at little to no cost. Teachers need to be HEARD by the public-at-large. I am attempting to put teachers' opinions in the spotlight on the Oprah Winfrey Network. I need your votes to make this happen. Help me create a national, visible forum for teachers. HURRY, VOTING ENDS JULY 3. Voting is free, and you can vote as many times as you like (just no automated voting software or robot voting. Go here: http://myown.oprah.com/audition/index.html?request=video_details&respons...

and click the green vote button. (Votes take awhile to show up, so don't worry if you don't see the tally change right away.)

Let's rally up! (I apologize in advance for the horrifying misplaced apostrophe in my video profile. Always proofread.) Thanks for your votes! Spread the word!

Not only was your video inspiring and interesting, it was also funny!

Loved every minute of it and voted for you! Hope you get a shot to bring an education-centered dialogue to Oprah.

Best,
Elana
