Hi Middle School Teachers. I am new to blogging and hope to do this correctly. I teach 6th grade math and am concerned about test scores being used to judge my effectiveness as a teacher. According to the state guidelines, we are required to teach so many skills. When they come to me they pass the ASK test and I am confused by this. Their math level registers on the average 4th to 5th grade according to the Successmaker program we have. Then in 6th grade their ASK scores drop. I have heard that they drop throughout the country in 6th grade. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on teaching for mastery vs, teaching all required skills according to the core curriculum standards.
