How do you handle the busyness of teaching middle school students?

I often cope by putting my head down and charging through my to-do list. But I'm trying to be careful about this because it sometimes causes me to miss an opportunity to help a student.

Here's a few things I'm trying to keep in mind:
1. Do what is important not necessarily urgent.
2. Slow is fast and fast is slow.
3. Focus is more valuable than multitasking.

I love these. Each one is so true, even though they may appear counter-intuitive in the heat of the moment.

No. 2 in particular is one I keep having to work on. Maybe I'll make a sign for myself that says, "Slow is fast and fast is slow."
