Professional Library

Ashley L

My school is about to create a professional library space. We plan to use it for grade level meetings, professional books/magazines/lesson ideas, to house books for small student groups, among other things.

What does your school do for the professional area of your building? Is there a layout/setup you really like? Have you run into any problems? Any ideas/comments are appreciated!

I have a wonderful space for our professional library but most of the use is by teachers/staff calling or emailing requesting that we send materials via school mail. Feel free to email me at cbmwork@gmailcom and I would be glad to talk to you.

I recently retired from a High School Library. We had a conference room that housed a professional collection. That area contained books and magazines dedicated to classroom management, curriculum development, information technology integration, etc. Teachers used the area for meetings, parent/teacher meetings, small group professional meetings, etc. During the school year, teachers would suggest titles for purchase, gleaned from their reading and conferences. I would circulate a cop of the contents page from the prof. dev. magazines to keep staff informed of new articles and breaking topics in the learning community.
