If sustainability is not addresses as part of school reform, then the reform will be short-lived. Schools exist as part of our social fabric, which will be stretched in all sorts of new directions due to global climate change and the accompanying food and water shortages, contention for scarce resources that may lead to international conflict, rising sea levels, and so on. Ignoring these realities calls into question just what kind of reform we're talking about. Certainly not reform based in reality.
