Fellow FL teachers, What are your favorite back-to-school activities? What kind of get-to-know you activities do your students enjoy the most? Do you use learning styles inventories or interest inventories for your students? In preparation for school(I start in about 2 weeks), I thought this might be a good time to start brainstorming. Even if you are still in the middle of your vacation, please take a few minutes to help the rest of us out! Also, check out this great learning styles inventory created by Foreign Language House. http://foreignlanguagehouse.com/2010/07/learning-style-inventory-get-to-... Saludos, Elvira

Saludos! I found this link on the FLTEACH digest. For back to school I am thinking about having students create surveys in small groups to find out what their classmates did in the summer. It will be a way to encourage collaboration, learn about what students did as well as work with verbos en el preterito. They will figure out a way to present their findings to the class.

I like the idea of a learning styles inventory. Does anyone have on in Spanish? I'd like to make one with questions on surveymonkey (save paper)

Mil gracias,

Abril

Abril,

Thanks for your input! I love your idea of creating your own survey/inventory using surveymonkey.com.

Since I teach K-6th, I usually have my students fill out a Get-To-Know you grid with statements in Spanish. Each student must then get their classmates to fill out the square that is true for them. The first person to complete their grid with signatures wins a small prize. For my younger learners/beginners, I add pictures with each phrase.
