Hello. I am new to this community and am really eager to begin a class webpage. I teach 2nd grade, and would like to schedule weekly activities. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to where to go? Thanks.

Class Website

I am working on this right now for my 3rd-grade class. I'm using a free service at Weebly.com. Very user-friendly and has everything you will need for this task. Of course, the pay version has even more capabilities, but for a basic class website, the free version seems fine. One piece of advice: Make sure you keep your administrator in the loop on what you are doing.

There are a number of excellent websites for creating your own website. You could use google.sites or - my favorite is: www.wix.com. The awesome thing about wix - besides it being free - is that wix is flash based. It looks great! If you need more information or tools you can check out this blog: http://tech4teacher.wordpress.com/

Weebly for Class Websites!

I agree with B.E. and recommend Weebly for any teacher who wants to create a class website. Yes, there are lots o' choices out there and I have tried most of them. But the reason Weebly is so great is (1) the drag-and-drop interface is easy and intuitive and (2) Weebly "plays well with others." What I mean is that anything you want to have on your site (videos, images, Google forms, Voki, Animoto, VoiceThread and on and on...) can be easily uploaded to your site.

Yes, the free version is fine, but I suggest looking into the Pro Account. Not only do you get additional features (bigger video uploads, audio player, password protected pages option, and more) but for the price of one Pro Account (less that $50 US per year) you can have 10 websites under that one Pro Account.

As a tech coach, we have purchased two or three Pro Accounts for each school so that all teachers can have access to all the benefits the advanced features offer. Hope this helps...

Class Website options?

Hi Dawn,
As others have mentioned yes, there are a number of options. Weebly being a great one if you are wanting to create a feature rich website... additionally you may want to consider a blog using things such as Blogger, Blogspot, etc.

If you are simply looking for a place to discover educational resources (websites, quizzes, etc) as well as present them to your class on a class specific page, http://www.19Pencils.com is free.

Good luck!

Websites are lifesavers!

Hi Dawn,

I've been using a website with my students for the past 8 years. I've taught kindergarten, fourth and fifth grades. I have used both html sites and now I use Google sites. These are the best! Google sites are free and they are a WSISUG (what you see is what you get) meaning, it works a lot like Word. There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube to help you through the set-up. Below you will find my personal website and I also included my schools site address so you can check out other 2nd grade teachers.

Enjoy your time creating your website. Decided exactly how you want to use it. IS it more for your parents, your students, both? Mine is for both. I post information for parents, but I also post websites and work on the site for my fourth grade students. If they loose an assignment, they know where they can go to print it out without asking me. I also post my homework here every day. This allows parents to check what is coming home before the end of the school day and also allows students to check in case they forgot to write something down. They can never not know what they have for homework. No excuses allowed. Realize that your website is a "living, breathing" thing and is always changing. I am still moving work over from my old site to this new one that we adopted half way through last school year. Have fun!

Hi!

I use Vengeo to create my websites. It's easy, customizable and delivers all my course lectures in an instant. It's the best thing I would say. It helps me deliver content dynamically and interactively. On top of that, instead of paying for other third party services, Vengeo provides most of all the services you need to publish and communicate outward. Here is what I use for one of my classes - www.vengeo.com/ayj/rennaissance

Most importantly, don't let your mind stop you from entering into the tech world and allowing your students have fun while learning a topic that may seem "boring". I support Vengeo and it has been a great tool for my department and school. I'd suggest to give it a try - www.vengeo.com

Have a terrific School Year! :) Hope this helps.
