Multi-age Class

1 805 Views
I teach a k/1 class for the first time this year. Next year I am going to be the 1/2 teacher. I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to teach mathematics in a multi-age class? How do you structure your math class? My school uses a set books based on the curriculum for each grade level. This year I have tried to combine the concepts from both grades. My kindergarten students ended up doing more of the first grade math, but I do not like the way it is going. Next year, I want to teach math differently. I thought about creating units in math based on the "big idea" and differentiating based on abilities. It just seems like a lot of work to create for one year. I would love feedback and/or ideas on this. Thanks!
