April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate the month, we're having a fun poetry contest.

Here's how it works:

:: Post your limerick on how to best improve education below :: Invite others to vote on your limerick. To vote, simply click on the thumbs up icon in the top right-hand corner of the post. :: At the end of the month, the top five limericks with the most "thumbs ups" will have their limerick promoted on edutopia.org's homepage and in our enewsletter! Plus, you'll get a fabulous bag of art/poetry-inspired goodies!

Let the Limericks begin! Deadline is April 30 at midnight PDT.

To better improve our school
and make it really cool,
we'd learn at our pace
in our own space,
with success being our tool.

Please throw away all the tests
Teaching kids subjects is best
If I need some data
I'll ask the mad hatta
And then we shall toast all the grads.

Fill in a bubble or learn how to read?
Wait for the stop or investigate the leaf?
Read science fiction or learn to write diction?
Advance on a test or solve the equation?
We have become a test only nation!

Schools are only as strong as their teachers,
But valued pedagogues are mythical creatures.
If politicians could see,
Rather than trust egos like Rhee,
Our children would not be stuck in the bleachers.

The ideal educational policies
Are nothing more than pure comedies
The hearts that should lead
Are in teacher that breathe
And not in Whitehouse theologies

Why parents, you're all in a stew!
Seems your children are failing in school!
While you sit in a slouch
With remote on your couch
As they model themselves after you

The season of testing's at hand
No child left behind in our land
I don't mean to preach
I just want to teach!
All testing, at once, should be banned!
