April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate the month, we're having a fun poetry contest.

Here's how it works:

:: Post your limerick on how to best improve education below :: Invite others to vote on your limerick. To vote, simply click on the thumbs up icon in the top right-hand corner of the post. :: At the end of the month, the top five limericks with the most "thumbs ups" will have their limerick promoted on edutopia.org's homepage and in our enewsletter! Plus, you'll get a fabulous bag of art/poetry-inspired goodies!

Let the Limericks begin! Deadline is April 30 at midnight PDT.

To teach without grasp of the whole child
Is akin to driving a car blind and wild
Without seeing their all
Veiled potential to flip and fall
Pray, seek their Multiple Intelligences
And be the pedagogic magic to beguile

Teach Esperanto to all
It's easy to learn and recall
Which assures them success
When they start to address
Our whole world- so increasingly small.

But, you say, I don't know
How to speak in Esperanto!
Never mind, never fear
The solution is here
Just check out the site named below

I believe you have encapsulated the benefits and essence of the language of Esperanto that both crosses and connects all countries and cultures.
The language that is so easy to learn. Good luck in the competition!

"I'll outlast forty students, no doubt!"
Their teacher shared with a shout
This day wasn't the first
But surely his worst
On a stretcher kids carried him out!

Make education alive
So that students can thrive
With interest and skill
Beyond run-of-the-mill
To do better than just survive.

"Why should I learn that?
I'll never need it," said Matt.
"It has no bearing.
And I'd rather be sharing
My interests and talents with Pat!"

While recently taking a bath,
I thought "all that reading, writing and math!
Interesting stuff,
but more than enough...
Could it be leading me down the wrong path?"

If adults knew what was best somehow
We should have a better world by now
But kids know best
And can accomplish the rest
With what we have left. Holy cow!

Let's not cheat our kids anymore!
Empower them starting from grade 4
To explore the world 'round,
Finding youthful talents abound,
To build a future like never before!
