April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate the month, we're having a fun poetry contest.

Here's how it works:

:: Post your limerick on how to best improve education below :: Invite others to vote on your limerick. To vote, simply click on the thumbs up icon in the top right-hand corner of the post. :: At the end of the month, the top five limericks with the most "thumbs ups" will have their limerick promoted on edutopia.org's homepage and in our enewsletter! Plus, you'll get a fabulous bag of art/poetry-inspired goodies!

Let the Limericks begin! Deadline is April 30 at midnight PDT.

There once was a school with a board
Every improvement they saw they floored
So they got rid of them all
Started school in the fall
And the student achievement it soared

There once was a school with a board
Every improvement they promptly floored
They got rid of them all
Started school in the fall
And the student achievement, it soared.

The students could read but not think
Said teacher, "We'll change in a wink."
With models of brain "talk,"
Some practice, then chart "chalk,"
Connections were forming a link!

Students need to learn to innovate
To solve the world's problems and create
Solutions can be found
And team work abounds
Destination ImagiNation is the gate!

So we want all our kids to just say:
"Learning more!" is really the way!
For those who won't bother,
Let's lead them to water,
And remember to salt all their hay!

We want them all learners, we say!
To that end, we work every day.
For the kids who won't bother,
As we lead them to water,
Remember to first salt their hay!

We all know the story of NCLB.
How it helped education we fail to see.
Let the teachers discern
How their students best learn.
Allowing for differentiation is the key.

Oh what a sign of our times-
Solutions proposed in some rhymes
To easily rob
Dignity from our job
As if we could solve all in five lines!

Teaching is of great concern.
For soon it will be their turn.
Know not just for now
But why and how
That's what our children should learn.
