I'm part of a group of teachers, administrators, and parents that has received a NC GreenPower Solar Schools matching grant for Charles E. Jordan High School in Durham, NC. NC GreenPower is going to help us build a 5KW Solar Power Photovoltaic (PV) Array. We will receive a $10,000 matching grant from NC GreenPower and an additional grant of $10,000 from the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation. The solar PV array will be used as a part of the alternative energy elements of the AP Environmental Science courses. Students will be able to use real data from the system to calculate the amount of electricity generated as well as the cost associated with producing the same amount of power using conventional means. We also have plans for other courses to study the array and its data. Real data and real world problem solving!

I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed, so I just created a request for my classroom at DonorsChoose.org:

Help Support Digital Literacy in Ms. Hoffman's 2nd Grade!

If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks.

Thanks so much,

P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my classroom, please pass this along!

I teach elementary ESL and our school has recently seen a large influx of newcomers from various countries, language backgrounds, and educational backgrounds. I created my first Donors Choose project to create kits of resources and activities to help the students have a positive transition into a US school, be able to work independently or with a partner, and also build their academic and social language. If you use the promo code SPARK before November 18, Donors Choose will match your contribution!
